TBC GARDENS

Tonbridge Bowling Club garden

ROGER DAVIES PUT UP HIS WELLY BOOTS, ON THE 30TH SEPTEMBER 2009, AFTER 15 YEARS AS TBC HEAD GARDENER.  DURING THIS PERIOD THE MAIN STRATEGY WAS TO MINIMISE ALL LABOUR INTENSIVE ACTIVITY BY CONCENTRATING ON SHRUBS, GRASSES, PERENNIALS AND CLIMBERS.

I THINK YOU WOULD AGREE THAT CLEMATIS WAS THE GARDENERS FAVOURITE DURING THIS PERIOD, AS SHOWN IN THE MANY PHOTOS IN THE LINKED ALBUMS.

THIS FUNCTION IS NOW CARRIED OUT BY JEAN RYAN AND THE GREEN & GROUND TEAM,  WHO HAVE ADDED HANGING BASKETS TO ENHANCE THE COLOUR OF THE DISPLAY.  THE TEAM HAVE ALSO CARRIED OUT MAJOR REDEVELOPMENT OF THE GARDENS, INCLUDING THE REMOVAL OF SOME OF THE HORNBEAM HEDGES.  SEE SPLENDID 2017 DISPLAY.
